Storey Avenue Closed at Lincoln Boulevard, August 25 - September 10
Storey Avenue will be closed at Lincoln Boulevard from Wednesday, August 25 through Friday, September 10 in order to continue work on the Ruckman Bridge replacement.

After early September, closures of Storey Avenue should be less frequent as much of the major activity in the area will have concluded.

Tree Removal Near Storey Avenue Beginning Thursday, August 26
Beginning Thursday, August 26 through the week of Monday, August 30, construction crews will remove the first row of trees adjacent to southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive, near Storey Avenue. Work will include tree removal, stump grinding, clearing and grading, and is expected to occur Monday-Friday, from 7am – 5pm. Additional fencing will be installed for visual screening and safety. Primary access to the tree removal and equipment staging areas will occur from the highway.

Removal of these trees allows for construction of the new hook ramp from northbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard. The trees were originally scheduled for removal last summer, but this was postponed by construction management, in coordination with the Presidio Trust, in order to maintain the screening for residents as long as possible. The delay also allowed the removal equipment to be staged on the old highway instead of near the houses.

Lincoln Boulevard Partial Closure, August 23-25
From Monday, August 23 through Wednesday, August 25, Lincoln Boulevard will be closed each day from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. between Storey Avenue and Crissy Field Avenue.

This closure is necessary in order to install falsework (temporary supports) for the new southbound high viaduct bridge.

Storey Avenue will remain open during this closure.

Vehicles should use Storey Avenue and follow detour signage back to Lincoln Boulevard. Pedestrians and bicyclists should use Long Avenue.

Night and Morning Work: Saturday August 14 at 10pm – Sunday August 15 at 11am
Beginning Saturday, August 14 at 10 pm there will be night and early morning work on southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive and the off-ramp to southbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard. This work is expected to be complete by 11 am the next day, Sunday.

Tasks will include pavement grinding, paving, and striping, as well as demolition of the existing and installation of a new barrier rail. This work is necessary to complete the Doyle Drive/Highway 101 alignment shift and continue Highway 101/1 interchange improvements.

In order to complete this work, the ramp from southbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive to southbound Highway 1/Park Presdio Boulevard will be closed. Please see the advisory for ramp closure details and detour route.

POSTPONED: Night Work: Saturday, August 7 ; Monday, August 9; Tuesday, August 10
The night work planned for Saturday, August 7, Monday, August 9, and Tuesday, August 10, on southbound Highway 101 and southbound Highway 1 in the area of the Highway 101/1 interchange has been postponed until further notice.

An update will be sent once this night work has been rescheduled.

Lower Storey Road Closure: Thursday, August 5 and the weeks of August 9 & 16
From Thursday, August 5 through Friday, August 20, the lower portion of Storey Avenue will be closed on weekdays at Lincoln Boulevard.  Please use upper Storey Avenue or Kobbe Avenue to access Lincoln Boulevard.

Please be aware that there will be intermittent closures of lower Storey Avenue until the new Ruckman Bridge is complete in approximately 6 months. Crews will post signs to inform residents of closure periods.

Lower Portion of Storey Avenue Closed August 2 & 3, 7 am to 4 pm
On Monday, August 2 and Tuesday, August 3 from 7 am to 4 pm, the lower portion of Storey Avenue will be closed at Lincoln Boulevard for a large concrete pour of the new Ruckman Bridge abutment (where the bridge connects to the ground). Please use upper Storey Avenue or Kobbe Avenue to access Lincoln Boulevard.

All dates are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen conditions.

Night Work for Roadway Maintenance
There will be night work July 27, 28 and possibly July 29 north of the MacArthur Tunnel and south of the Ruckman Bridge along Hwy 1 for roadway maintenance. There will be lane closures during this time.

This work is unrelated to the Presidio Parkway project.

Extended Hours Starting July 26 for Battery Tunnel Construction
Work has begun on the southbound Battery Tunnel adjacent to the Riley neighborhood. Crews have removed the Lincoln Boulevard roadway bed next to the National Cemetery and have started drilling piles to support the new tunnel walls.

Beginning Monday, July 26, tunnel construction will require work to occur twenty hours per day, Monday to Saturday, until further notice. Construction hours will be from 5 am to 1 am (two 10-hour shifts).

Work on the tunnel will generally progress from west to east. Construction on the retaining wall will begin at a later date, and details will be provided as soon as they become available.

Noise readings were conducted during the week of July 5; results indicated that the work did not raise noise levels in the area significantly over ambient conditions. However, CalTrans project management will be actively working with the contractor to minimize impacts.

Night Work, Thursday July 22 and Friday, July 23
On Thursday, July 22 and Friday, July 23 there will be night work in the area between northbound Highway 1 and southbound Highway 1 adjacent to Highway 101. Work will occur from 11 pm to 7 am.

Northbound Highway 1 will be closed at Lake Street from midnight to 5 am in order to stage vehicles for this activity.

Nightwork and Hwy 101 Lane Reduction, 10 p.m., July 17 - 8 a.m., July 18

There will be night work starting at 10 p.m. this Saturday, July 17 through 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 18 near the Hwy 1/Hwy 101 interchange as crews shift the roadway alignment to the north in order to make room for Highway 1/Highway 101 interchange improvements as part of the Doyle Drive replacement.

Shifting the roadway alignment will involve reducing traffic to one lane in each direction to allow for restriping and installing new holes for the lane change pylons (yellow barriers).

Lights will be directed away from homes during this activity.

There will be early morning work Tuesday, July 13, 2010 and Wednesday, July 14 in the area between northbound Doyle Drive and the Highway 1 on-ramp (see yellow area on the advisory below). Night work hours are expected to be 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

There will be early morning work Monday, July 12, 2010 in the area between northbound Doyle Drive and the Highway 1 on-ramp (see yellow area on the advisory below). Night work hours are expected to be 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Additional night work has been scheduled for the coming weeks as construction of the new Ruckman bridge and southbound high viaduct progresses.

Grading & Paving Adjacent to Northbound Hwy 101

There is night work scheduled in this area July 8 and 9 to prepare for a northbound traffic shift on Hwy 101 scheduled for mid-July.

There is also night work expected the week of July 19-23. More details will follow.

Temporary Bridge Support (Falsework) Installation - July 9 and 10

There will be night work July 9 and 10 in order to place the temporary bridge support (falsework) over Highway 1 for the new southbound high viaduct. This work will require a closure of northbound Hwy 1 between midnight and 5pm
in order to complete installation.

This work is not expected to be noisy.

Night Work Update through July
Due to careful planning and off-peak lane closures, construction crews have been able to avoid the majority of previously planned night work and limit construction impacts to nearby residents.

There are still certain activities that may occur during nighttime hours in the coming weeks. As a reminder, night work is necessary when construction requires a highway lane closure that would cause region-wide traffic impacts or if the work activity is continuous and cannot be stopped, such as a concrete pour.

Upcoming night work includes:

Grading & Paving Adjacent to Northbound Highway 101 through Mid-July

The night work planned from June 14 through June 28 did not occur, as crews were able to conduct the work between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

However, intermittent night work may be necessary in this area over the next few weeks to prepare for a northbound traffic shift on Hwy 101 scheduled for mid-July.

Bridge Foundation & Column Work through July

Intermittent night work will continue in the Cavalry Stables area through July to finish bridge foundations and columns. There will be intermittent noise associated with machinery and generators. Lights will be directed away from homes.

Demolition of Old Ruckman Bridge Underway
Demolition of the former northbound lanes of the Ruckman Bridge is currently underway. Watch it all on the webcam!

Please expect occasional closures of Storey Avenue during this activity. Signage will be in place.

Major Construction to Begin on the Southbound Battery Tunnel and Retaining Wall
Construction of the southbound Battery Tunnel and retaining wall adjacent to Riley Road is expected to begin tomorrow (Friday), June 18.

During the initial phase of construction, crews will remove the asphalt on the closed section of Lincoln Boulevard and begin drilling support foundations for the retaining wall and tunnel sections. You can expect to see an increase in construction activity, including equipment staging, truck and heavy equipment traffic, earthwork and grading, drilling, and concrete pouring.

As construction progresses, many activities must occur outside of regular working hours. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday from 7 am to 7 pm, and Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm.

Work may occur outside of regular hours when:
- it is determined that the noise created by the activity is within permitted ranges
- there is a highway lane closure that would cause region-wide traffic impacts
- there is continuous work that cannot be stopped, such as a concrete pour
- there is critical path work that would have significant schedule implications

When work outside of normal work hours near is expected, advance notification will be sent.

Utility Switch Over Complete
The utility switch over to transfer power to new electrical supply lines has been completed early. Service has been restored to the Ruckman, Storey, West Washington, Kobbe, and South Baker Beach neighborhoods.

Power Outage - Thursday, June 17, 8 am to 5 pm
In recent weeks, new electrical supply lines serving the western areas of the Presidio have been installed. This utility work has been necessary to facilitate the reconstruction of the Doyle Drive roadway. The new equipment will result in a more stable and reliable power delivery system for Presidio residents and tenants.

In order to switch over to the new system, a one-time power outage affecting the Ruckman, Storey, West Washington, Kobbe, and South Baker Beach neighborhoods is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, from 8 am to 5 pm.

Night Work Update, June 2010
There will be various night work activities occurring in the southwest section of the project over the next few weeks. These include:

Grading & Paving Adjacent to Northbound Highway 101 through June

From June 14 through 28 there will be intermittent night work to realign northbound Highway 101 near the Park Presidio Interchange.

This work will require the use of heavy equipment, loading and dumping of material, grading, drainage installation, and paving.

Bridge Foundation & Column Work through July

Intermittent night work will continue in the Cavalry Stables area through July to create bridge foundations and columns. This work will include twisting steel casings into the ground, removing material inside the casings, welding and concrete pours. There will be occasional noise associated with machinery and generators. Lights will be directed away from homes.

Night Work for Northbound Ruckman Bridge Traffic Shift

Night work will occur Monday, June 14 through Friday, June 18 along Highway 1, under Highway 101, in order to prepare for the northbound Ruckman Bridge traffic shift. The traffic shift and associated ramp closure are expected to occur overnight on Friday, June 18. This night work was originally scheduled for the week of June 7 but was postponed.

Night Work POSTPONED
There will be no night work tonight, Monday, June 7.

The ramp closure preparation night work originally scheduled for tonight, June 7 through Thursday night, June 10 has been POSTPONED until next week, June 14-18. The ramp closure from northbound Highway 1/Park Presidio Boulevard to northbound Highway 101/Doyle Drive is now expected to occur on Friday, June 18 starting at 10 p.m.  Details to follow.

Night Work to Prepare for Northbound Traffic Shift, June 4 and 7-10
An overnight closure of northbound Highway 1 to northbound Highway 101 is expected to occur on June 12 to enable a shift of traffic on the Ruckman Bridge. In advance of this, nighttime work is needed tonight, Friday, June 4 and Monday, June 7 through the morning of Friday, June 11 along Highway 1, under Highway 101.

Night work hours are 8 pm to 7 am.

Residents can expect a similar level of activity as occurred last night, Thursday, June 3. Construction noise was measured on June 3 and found to be slightly above normal (ambient) conditions typical to the area.

Night Work and Sunday Construction Scheduled This Week
There will be night work tonight, June 3, for crews to perform finishing work in the area of northbound Hwy 1 adjacent to Hwy 101.

There is also Sunday work scheduled for June 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in this area.

Night Work for Median Demolition Beginning June 1
In order to shift northbound traffic lanes to the west to start reconstruction of the Ruckman bridge, portions of the median barrier on Highway 1 need to be demolished.

The median demolition is scheduled to take place from the evening of Tuesday, June 1 through the morning of Friday, June 4.  

Night work hours are 8 pm to 7 am.

This work must occur at night as it requires lane closures on southbound and northbound Highway 1.

This demolition work is expected to be very noisy, and will require the use of heavy equipment and demolition of concrete, as well as the use of back-up beepers. We apologize for the disruption and thank you for your patience.

McDowell Avenue & Mason Street Resurfacing, Week of May 24
During the week of May 24, roadway resurfacing work will occur on Mason Street and McDowell Avenue. There will be traffic control and closures associated with this work. Targeted dates and roadway impacts include:

Tuesday, May 25: Expect occasional delays on Mason Street and McDowell Avenue.

Wednesday, May 26: McDowell Ave will be closed.

The PresidiGo Around the Park Shuttle stops 6, 7 and 8 will not be available during this closure.

Access to the U.S. Park Police Stables and the Park Archives building will be provided via Lincoln Boulevard to McDowell Avenue.

Thursday, May 27 and Friday, May 28: There will be one lane traffic control on Mason Street from Halleck Street to Crissy Field Avenue.

This activity is reliant on dry weather. All dates are subject to change due to rain and unforeseen conditions.

May 2010 Construction Look Ahead
Construction of the next major component of the Presidio Parkway Project - the southbound Battery Tunnel and a temporary bypass - will begin in late May 2010 and continue through late 2011.

You can expect to see the following upcoming activities as this new phase of the project gets underway.

Overnight Ramp Closure Beginning May 21 at 10 p.m.
In order to transfer traffic to the new temporary bridge on Highway 1, north of the MacArthur Tunnel, the southbound ramp from Hwy 101/Doyle Drive to Hwy 1/Park Presidio Boulevard will be closed from Friday, May 21 at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m.

This traffic shift and short-term ramp closure will allow traffic to continue to flow unimpeded while the permanent bridge is built.

Motorists should be aware of the new roadway configuration and use caution in construction zones.

McDowell Avenue Closed, Starting 3 p.m., Friday, April 30
McDowell Avenue will be closed starting at 3 p.m. Friday, April 30 for 12-16 hours for a large concrete pour for one of the 12’ diameter bridge piles (column foundation). There will be significant truck traffic associated with this work.

McDowell Avenue will reopen upon completion of this operation.
