Greenroads® Certification

Greenroads logoPresidio Parkway is paving the way for a new network of green roads in the USA! From inception to completion, the project team has embraced sustainable design features and best practices in order to minimize impacts to the environment, while enhancing pedestrian and bicycle access to the surrounding neighborhoods and parkland. This commitment to sustainable infrastructure has made the project eligible to pursue a Greenroads certification, a new points-based rating system for roadway design and construction.

Greenroads promotes a holistic approach to the development of sustainable infrastructure. Projects earn points towards certification for implementing sustainable construction best practices and design features in categories such as "Construction Activities," "Materials and Resources" and "Access and Equity." By meeting all Greenroads sustainability requirements and performing additional site-specific voluntary activities—such as conducting cultural outreach and ensuring multimodal access—roadway projects may become Greenroads certified. As a Greenroads pilot roadway, Presidio Parkway is the first major infrastructure project pursuing certification in the United States.

Because Presidio Parkway is being constructed in two phases, Phase I and Phase II, the project has the opportunity to pursue two certifications - one for each project phase. During Phase II of construction, key green features of the project will become visible as the final roadway takes shape:
